Merry Christmas!

To all of our valued clients and colleagues, thank you for your ongoing support throughout the year, and wishing you an enjoyable, safe and more sustainable festive season 🙂

TO APPROVE OR NOT APPROVE?

One of the projects I’m currently working on is a new two-storey home in Bedford, for clients Peter & Susanne. Unfortunately, we’ve encountered some problems obtaining development approval. These are the facts: The development application was received the City Bayswater on the 13th July 2015. As part of the development application process, comment was sought from adjoining neighbours. One […]

OSPREY WATERS SUSTAINABLE DEMONSTRATION HOME

This sustainable demonstration home and sales office was designed and constructed as part of the Mirvac Osprey Waters masterplanned community, a 36 hectare 407 lot development situated adjacent to the Mandurah Estuary.

POPANYINNING RESIDENCE

This project single dwelling is situated in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, between Pingelly and Narrogin near the Great Southern Highway. The walls and roof are constructed from Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) on a reinforced concrete slab on ground with a internal gabion wall, providing the optimal balance between thermal mass and an airtight, highly insulated building shell. The panels are […]

THOUGHTS ON SUSTAINABILITY

This post was originally published as an opinion piece in The Architect Spring 2014 Issue 2. Lately I’ve been wondering – when and how did we forget about sustainability? You see, these days I don’t think that sustainability is a recent phenomena when it comes to the design and construction of our built environment. While “sustainability” […]

ECO HAMLET GREENMOUNT

This a concept site plan for a seven dwelling development in Greenmount, where I’ve been engaged to help design a small scale eco-village with a strong sense of community. It’s a challenging project as it’s a steeply slope site, located in a high danger bushfire area; trying to retain as many trees as possible while also ensure […]

QUEBEC ROAD RESIDENCES

Currently designing two residences in the beautiful leafy suburb of Woodbridge. The original 1012 sqm lot is being sub-divided to increase density (an important part of the Directions 2031 strategy for Perth) while also being sympathetic in design and scale to the existing streetscape. The right side boundary from the street faces north, so each dwelling is being designed to take advantage of the solar passive orientation.

BUILDING FOR OUR CHANGING CLIMATE

This opinion piece was originally published in various online journals when the IPCC Fifth Assessment Report was released.

DESIGNBUILD KEYNOTE PRESENTATION…

Last week I gave a presentation entitled The Future of Sustainability? at the DesignBUILD expo at the Melbourne Convention Centre. A big thank you to ABSA CEO Rodger Hills, expo organisers and everyone that attended; here are some photos from the day: The good folks at DesignBuild wrote a glowing summary of my presentation: One of […]

A HOME FOR GENERATION Y

A few weeks ago my awesome design partner Alex Raynes-Goldie and I completed our Stage 02 submission for the Landcorp Generation Y House Design Competition. We thought you might like to have a look-see. Here’s an image of our Stage 01 submission, which got us on the shortlist of 6 out of 21 submissions: We […]
